Pregnancy Massage

While you are pregnant, your body is undergoing stress-producing changes. Massage pleasantly and effectively eliminates many of the adverse effects of stress and the accompanying discomforts.

Every time you experience a positive response from the treatment you will be empowered with more control, security and confidence for an easier birth outcome.

Most woman experience how strong, ready and prepared they feel as a result of the massage.

  • Stabilizing your hormonal levels and make their side effects less severe.
  • Massage of the legs can control varicose veins and reduces edema (swelling).
  • Increases a rise of blood to all areas of your body, including the placenta and helps to eliminate fatigue.
  • The lymphatic system circulates faster and more effectively: more energy and less fatigue.
  • The strain on the muscles of the lower back, abdomen, diaphragm and shoulders can be greatly reduced. This will be very welcome in the last trimester of your pregnancy!
  • The muscles, ligaments, tendons and joints enjoy greater flexibility, which is great especially during labour.
  • Massage gives you the so much needed relaxation, which will give the same relaxation to your baby.
  • The table is especially designed for pregnancy: you can lay comfortably on your belly. Your belly is resting in and carried by an elastic mat which gives total comfort and support.
  • Exercises and Postures will be used to support you.

Monique will use techniques from Rebalancing, Reflexology Reiki and Acupressure to comfort you and to welcome the new baby.

Reiki

Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926). Fired by a burning question, Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.

There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.

A Reiki Treatment

The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes 1 to 1½ hours with each position held for several minutes.

Which conditions can Reiki help?

It is possible to heal at any level of being: physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Acute injuries can be helped to heal very quickly but more chronic illness takes longer. In some cases such as terminal illness, there is not enough time for the progress of the disease to be reversed. However, in such cases there is usually great benefit and enhancement of the quality of life giving a sense of peace and acceptance during the time remaining.

Reiki healing can be given anywhere at any time as no special equipment is needed. The practitioner is a channel which the energy is drawn through by the need or imbalance in the recipient. Neither person has to use any effort of will or concentration during this process.

As running water smoothes the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll away, Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing pain and supporting the body's natural ability to heal itself. Reiki restores balance in one's life.

Reiki supports all forms of treatment both orthodox and complementary

Reflexology

Reflexology is a form of 'alternative' or 'complementary' medicine and involves a method of treatment using massage to reflex areas found in the feet and the hands. Most commonly, the feet are used as the areas to be treated.

In the feet, there are reflex areas corresponding to all the parts of the body and these areas are arranged in such a way as to form a map of the body in the feet with the right foot corresponding to the right side of the body and the left foot corresponding to the left side of the body. By having the whole body represented in the feet, the method offers a means of treating the whole body and of treating the body as a whole. This latter point is an important factor of a natural therapy and allows not only symptoms to be treated but also the causes of symptoms.

The method has been used for several thousands of years and is known to have been practised in a similar manner by the Chinese and the Egyptians. More recently, Reflexology was described in the form in which it is now known by the late Eunice Ingham, an American lady, who based her method of treatment on work called 'Zone Therapy' which had been described some years earlier in the 1920's by an American, Dr. William Fitzgerald. The main pioneer of Reflexology in Great Britain was the late Doreen Bayly who introduced the method in the early 1960's and whose great determination to stimulate awareness and interest in the method should not be forgotten.

Reflexology does not claim to be a 'cure-all' but numerous different disorders have been successfully treated by this method. These disorders include such things as migraine, sinus problems, hormonal imbalances, breathing disorders, digestive problems, circulatory problems, back problems and tension and stress. Most people who have experienced treatment would agree that the method can be most beneficial and is also a very relaxing therapy.

On-Chair Massage

Offers a fast, focussed and effective treatment, mainly for people who do concentrated work. This treatment is practised on an ergonomically designed chair.

The working of the Chair Massage: *Releases muscle tension and stiff shoulders *Liberates stress and tension mainly caused by one-sided muscle over-taxing.. *Refreshes the creativity by loosening up blocked energy. *Heightens the self-esteem and well being of the client

You receive an acupressure treatment for the shoulders, head, neck, back, arms and hands

This is oil free, through the clothes while seated and takes about 20 minutes.

Afterwards you’ll feel more relaxed, calm, energetic and clearly focussed (like after a fresh shower).

Since 1995 Monique has been giving trainings in Chair Massage in Holland.

Now these trainings are available here in Alberta.
