What is Rebalancing?
Rebalancing is a combination of deep tissue massage, joint tension release and energy balancing to release chronic holding patterns that contribute to pain and illness. According to the holistic approach of rebalancing, the emotional, energetic and spiritual aspects are as important as our physical component.
Why Rebalancing?
A healthy body has a grace of its own. But from a very young age, we as children were put under pressure from parents, school and society to control our feelings. This has an impact on our liveliness, open mindedness and spontaneity.
Each time we repress anger, sadness or aggression as a way of coping, an inner struggle takes place. When emotion is repressed, the body responds by contracting certain muscles in a chronic fashion. Thus, often without our noticing it, we end up with reduced energy, in a state of dis-ease.
One becomes consciously aware of this when physical and/or psychological symptoms appear: low energy, there is stress, sleeplessness, headache, shoulder, back and neck problems. Every body tells its own unique history.
There are several ways of dealing with these signals. Known patterns are, for instance:
- To neglect, by keeping yourself up, staying brave, and talking away symptoms.
- To run away in over consumption, for example, of food, drink, smoking, or work.
- To conquer, by the use of medication.
How Rebalancing Works
In a session of rebalancing, "touching" and therefore "being touched", are essential.
Rebalancing is a way to increase the ability to feel. Feeling connects you more with who you truly are. The capacity of the rebalancer for empathy, and the mastery of several body-oriented techniques, forms the basis for a professional, individually focussed and intuitive approach.
In a treatment, one or more of the following techniques will be used:
Body Analysis
Body Analysis is a way of reading the body posture and its mobility and how the energy is moving or blocked. It also shows in which area more space can become available. This can be the key in a series of treatments.
Body Posture and Movement
Becoming more aware of and enhancing the way you stand, sit and move can enable you to be more balanced and centred. This awareness helps to re-own your body’s flexibility, and to lessen physical discomfort.
Deep Muscle and Tissue Massage (Rolfing)
This helps to soften tight and knotted muscles and tissues and to release built up tension. The relaxation can be accompanied by the experience of letting go of what has been held emotionally.
Joint Release (Traeger)
This is a dynamic and rhythmic massage, which gives more freedom of movement and flexibility in the joints and the spine. It is a gentle and subtle method of deep bodywork.
Breathing
In a rebalancing session breathing is used as a tool to move thru tension and emotion. The deeper and more complete and conscious the breathing is, the more the capacity to feel, and connection to your own energy is expanded.
Integration
The rebalancer guides the client with supporting exercises. When you learn to accept yourself, then the energy and the space, which are released through the treatments, will be integrated in your life.
These different approaches invite you to listen again to your own body at your own speed, and to let go of what you no longer need – to make space for the new you!
Meditation
This is another word for "being conscious". The more the body relaxes, the more the thinking will relax. If the silence which then appears is experienced consciously, it will give an anchor of peace. From this inner peace it's possible to be a witness to the thinking and the feeling. In your daily life this will give you more freedom, stability and aliveness.
